The 2011 Insomniac Audiotistic festival took place this past weekend at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino. Due to a recent surgery main stage headliner Sebastian Ingrosso was forced to cancel, filling in the slot would be Wolfgang Gartner.
Four stage were composed throughout the festival grounds. Main stage ‘Treble Frequency’ and side stages ‘Speaker Temple’ which was sponsored by the Anjunabeats label (Above & Beyond), ‘Bass Frequency’, and ‘The Boombox’.
To keep the energy up from the afternoon to night would be 19 year old electro-house prodigy Porter Robinson. Following the young phenom would be the much anticipated performance by the UK’s Doctor P. and Flux Pavillion. The duo would hold down a 90 minute set dropping huge bass anthems that would surely shake the wax off your eardrums.
At the ‘Bass Frequency’ stage Benga keep his audience screaming for more and the hands high in the air, while Datsik kept the sub-woofers pumping.
Over at ‘The Boombox’ DJ Craze mixed it up with hip-hop and electronic. Later on in the night Major Lazer prolonged the party and had The Boombox booming until 2am.
Female fronted Crystal Castles took the main stage ‘Treble Frequency’ just after midnight, their wild antics and abstract presence gave the edm congregation something to look forward too..
Last minute headliner Wolfgang Gartner (Joey Youngman) held a nonstop fist pumping set. Gartner has had a very successful upraising career in the edm scene since 2007. Being Grammy nominated and having worked with the worlds top DJ’s
Wolfgang defiantly earned the right to close out the night.
This year Insomniac focused on booking more “dubstep” “bass music ” artists than hip-hop and electro acts that been on the bill in years passed. Keeping that in mind we shall see what type of impact that genre of electronic music will take us in the future.
Just around the corner we have Nocturnal Wonderland coming up with headliner Kaskade in September.
Also new to the Insomniac event line up is Escape From Wonderland with headliner Afrojack happening Halloween weekend.
