Blues guitar legend B.B. King played the House of Blues in Anaheim on Thursday night August 28 as he brings his summer 2014 touring schedule to an end. At 88 years young (he will be 89 on September 16) King still keeps a touring schedule that would tire most musicians half his age. After an entertaining 45 minute set from the young blues rockers Detour 91, King appeared on stage and took a seat and strapped on Lucille (his black Gibson six-string) and began to address the enthusiastic crowd with a hello speech and then telling various stories.
After about 10 minutes of talking King got down to business with his legendary guitar playing and began 80 minutes of entertainment. Backed up by an all-star band featuring saxophone and trumpet King played songs featuring “You Are My Sunshine”, “The Thrill Is Gone” and “Rock Me Baby”. Although the performance lacked any real guitar solos and he seemed to talk as much as he played it was an enjoyable event none-the-less. In addition to his story telling he interacted with the crowd quite often having actual conversations with many members of the crowd.
Overall it was an entertaining night listing to B.B. King talk, sing and play his guitar. His touring schedule picks up again in late September and runs through late October. Be sure to check www.bbking.com for all the latest information on this musical legend.
