Online radio giant Pandora brought back its end-of-summer celebration dubbed “Summer Crush” to Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon August 13. After such huge names appearing in past years Summer Crush celebration such as Steve Aoki and Iggy Azalea, Pandora outdid themselves in 2016 as appearing at this first-come, first serve event was Daya, 8-time Grammy winner Fergie and 5 Seconds of Summer.
Fans started lining up early in the afternoon anxiously awaiting the clock to hit 4:30 so they could get inside the fenced off outdoor area at L.A. Live directly across from Staples Center.
Up and coming 17 year old pop singer Daya started the event at 6:00pm with a 35 minute performance that received a loud reception from the growing crowd of mostly teenage girls. Daya expressed her extreme thanks for being part of this event as the crowd seemed to sing along with every word of her songs that they no doubt listen to via Pandora.
There was high anticipation for the next act, Fergie. With her new single recently released “M.I.L.F. $” from her upcoming second album Double Duchess, Fergie is in high demand. The solo artist and Black Eyed Peas singer hit the stage and put on a high energy 45 minute set that included all the hits including “London Bridge” and “Glamourous”. She told the crowd that she was extremely excited to be back performing in her hometown of L.A. Her perfectly choreographed set had her singing while dancing in sync with her backup dancers with the crowd bouncing and hand waving the entire time.
International pop rock sensation 5 Seconds of Summer took the stage at almost 8:30pm with shrieking screams from the mainly young female audience. With over 10 million LIKES on Facebook it is an understatement that this band is in the height of its popularity. With their new single from The Ghostbusters movie “Girls Talk Boys” in high demand and their pending headline tour of the USA and Mexico in September, 5 Seconds of Summer is on a mission to conquer the world.
With the popularity of this event, Pandora may need to seek a larger venue other than L.A. Live for 2017. It will be interesting to see how the online radio giant can outdo this year’s event lineup . . . we will have to wait and see.
