revolution-tour-2018In grand fashion, one of the summer’s biggest tours was officially announced Tuesday night April 3rd as The Revolution 3 Tour featuring Stone Temple Pilots, Bush and The Cult held a launch event at the NeueHouse on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. Contest winners, VIP and media were invited to this intimate party that promised performances from each of the trio of bands. In the shadow of the Hollywood Palladium, NeueHouse occupies space inside the old CBS Radio building with history dating back to the 1930s.

The event was streamed worldwide by Billboard with legendary music personality Matt Pinfield serving as the MC for the evening. He personally introduced each band and pitching the upcoming presale and regular onsale dates for the 20 stop tour that begins July 18th in Nashville and concludes in San Diego on September 2nd. This tour promises to offer full sets from each band in different order nightly, setting up a unique ‘tri-headlining’ show at each stop. The event saw a potpourri of VIP in attendance with a rare appearance by Morrissey, various musicians and even actor/comedian Jack McBrayer (30 Rock).

Sticking with the theme of ‘3’, The Cult drew the opening slot this evening and provided three of their biggest hits with opener “Wild Flower” finding lead singer Ian Astbury in full tambourine mode with guitarist Billy Duffy supplying his customary riffs. “Dark Energy” and “She Sells Sanctuary” completed the quick set with the closer drawing the loudest recognition from the crowd.

Gavin Rossdale and his mates from Bush were up next and supplied the crowd with an energetic version of “Machinehead” right out of the gate. Lead guitarist Chris Traynor and bassist Corey Britz clearly soaked up the energy from the crowd as their second offering—“The Sound Of Winter” was as energetic & powerful, leading directly into an lengthy rendition of “Comedown” which always finds Rossdale and crew at their finest. The tune has become a staple as their closer at each of their headlining shows and will no doubt remain a perfect punctuation point to finish each of their sets during the upcoming tour.

Headlining responsibility during this event was handled perfectly by Stone Temple Pilots. With their new frontman Jeff Gutt finding his groove with the band, the DeLeo brothers were in customary form this evening on a trio of classics. “Wicked Garden” led things off with “Vasoline” and an explosive version of “Sex Type Thing” helped close out the evening—giving the audience a feel for the unlimited potential that this tour has for the summer shows. With a handful of shows under their belt, Gutt (replacing Scott Weiland as the frontman for the notorious band) seems like a perfect fit both vocally and physically—channeling Weiland’s slinky and aggressive stage presence. He also proclaimed prior to exiting the stage that they are ‘gonna commit some rock on stage’ this summer.

All the acts seem super pumped for the upcoming shows, tickets for all shows will be available via Live Nation beginning on Friday, April 6th at 10am local time.  The only local SoCal show scheduled is Saturday, September 1st (Labor Day Weekend) at the Glen Helen Amphitheatre in San Bernardino.
