Last night another storm swept through East Nashville’s The Basement East, this time in the form of hurricane as guitar goddess Nita Strauss brought her current “Winter Wasteland” tour to town.

The night opened with New York’s own Black Satellite. This band is one of the hardest working I have seen. In my 6 months in Nashville I have seen them 3X already (Opening for John5, this tour, and at the Blue Ridge Rock Fest) and missed them when they opened for Fozzy, and they never disappoint. The band is touring to support their current release “Endless.”

Second up was new comers Abby K. The Grammy Camp alumnus. Abby handles all vocals as well as Bass for the bans, with the rest of the band rounding out with Diego Vargas on guitars and Zach Gulledge behind the kit. Look for more things to come from these newcomers, and new Nashville residents.

As the lights and house music faded to black, the crowd erupted in cheers as Nitas band took the stage, moments later the crowd lost their mind as Nita runs onto the stage. Many know Nita from her days in the Iron Maidens, or now as one of Alice Coopers guitarists, however she has a very successful solo carrer with her debut “Controlled Chaos.” For what felt like hours, Nita controlled every aspect of the stage and kept the crowd in the palm of her hand all night. Nita wraps up this leg of the tour tomorrow night before setting sail on the Shiprocked cruise.
