Seems like yesterday Black Stone Cheery was the new kid on the block with their massive hit “Lonely Train” dominating the radio airwaves but here we are in 2022 with seven albums under their belt these hard southern rockers are 21 years into a successful career. Stopping at Skydeck Assembly Food Hall in Nashville on Friday April 8 (a makeup show from the cancelled 11/5/2021 show due to Covid 19), Black Stone Cherry left the capacity crowd with some southern rock whiplash from an all out banger of a show.

Kickin off the show with “Me and Mary Jane” from 2014’s Magic Mountain album, guitarist/vocalist Chris Robertson along with fellow original members guitarist Ben Wells and drummer John Fred Young and introducing new touring bassist Steve Jewell (who replaced original bass player Jon Lawhon in 2021 who is on hiatus) rocked Nashville with a high energy 15 song set. This band is a supercharged ball of energy with each member giving 110% the entire set – especially John Fred Young who is just a hard hitting machine behind his kit.

About halfway through the set Nashville native and Gibson Ambassador and pickles six-string virtuoso Jared James Nichols joined the BSC boys onstage for a smoking hot version of the blues classic “Evil” by Howlin Wolf. Nichols scorched his Gibson Les Paul with a nasty solo as he traded off licks with Wells and Robertson. The band ended their set with the hard rocking “Lonely Train” – the song that started it all.

Black Stone Cherry continues their North American takeover through July before heading over to Europe in September.  Catch these wild riff laden southern rockers when they hit your town.

Fellow Southern rockers Georgia Thunderbolts got things rockin in fine fashion to warm up the enthusiastic Nashville crowd and primed the crowd just enough to get them ready for Black Stone Cherry.
