Tanner Usrey and Blackberry Smoke brought the party to Emo’s Austin on Thursday, November 10th, on The Whippoorwill 10th Anniversary tour.
Texas native Tanner Usrey started the show with his song, “The Morning Light.” Hailing from Prosper, TX, Ursey had played across the US and gained notoriety when his song, “The Light,” was featured on season four of Yellowstone.
Usrey and his guitar player played an eleven-song set to the packed crowd. His setlist included his new song that dropped at midnight on Thursday called “Pick Up Your Phone.” After finishing his set with “The Light,” Ursery left the stage with a crowd of new fans.
Standing in the photo pit with anticipation for Blackberry Smoke to take the stage, I made several new friends. Their fans were the nicest people I had ever met at a show and told me story after story about seeing Blackberry Smoke all over the country. Finally, the lights dimmed, and Blackberry Smoke took the stage, playing my favorite song, “Six Ways to Sunday.”‘
Formed in Atlanta, GA, in 2000, Blackberry Smoke has spent the last 22 years bringing their southern sound worldwide. The Whippoorwill record was released in 2012 as their third studio record that contained songs such as “Six Ways to Sunday,” “Pretty Little Lie,” Everybody Knows She’s Mine,” and “Leave A Scar.”
Since the tour was celebrating the tenth anniversary of The Whippoorwill, the band played the entire record throughout their twenty-song set. The crowd sang along to every song, getting louder and louder as Blackberry Smoke went to the next song.
The band ended their set with two popular songs, “Good One Comin’ On.” and “Old Scarecrow.” My new friends cheered and continued yelling for Blackberry Smoke to come back on stage. As the show ended, the fans flooded the merch table of both Blackberry Smoke and Tanner Usrey. Once again, supporting live music.
