It may have been freezing in the heart of Deep Ellum, but that did not stop Rain City Drive (formerly known as Slaves) from bringing the heat to Trees. Fans were seen lined up outside the venue hours before the show even started. Dedicated fans with VIP passes were eager to get through the door to claim their benefits, including a meet and greet, two-song acoustic set, photo opportunity, exclusive screen-printed poster, custom cinch bag, a souvenir laminate VIP badge, early merch shopping, and early entry.

Dallas was the fourth stop on this co-headlining tour with fellow rock band, Eidola and opening acts, Royal Coda, and Body Thief. Doors opened at 6:00 PM sharp with the opening acts going on first, Eidola going on at 8:30 PM and Rain City Drive going on at 9:30 PM. Bandmates, Colin Vieira (bass), Felipe Sanchez (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Weston Richmond (lead guitar, backing vocals), Zachary Baker (drums), and newest member and lead vocalist, Matt McAndrew (Season 7 of NBC’s The Voice) were just as eager to get the show started and opened up with their new single, “Waiting on You”, from their new self-titled album. What was special about this song was that Matt McAndrew stated it was in part inspired by being stuck inside during the pandemic and waiting for life, work, and inspiration to start back up again. He says that “Waiting on You” sounded like the album opener to the band, so he wanted to write the lyrics in a way that would fill the listener in on what happened since they released their last record.

The band continued performing three more songs from their self-titled album, two being live debuts (“Gardens of Misery” and “Eternity”). They then performed songs from their fourth studio album To Better Days, which was released under their previous name Slaves, before changing their name to Rain City Drive on November 6, 2021.

Everyone truly anticipated the song “Heavier”, in which Matt made a note to the crowd that this was the song to “test the waters as a band”. “…Before we make it official, we need to see how we write together. So, this is the first song we came out with, we did this song with Jimmy Alexander(vocalist) from Awaken I Am…and this was the one where we’re like, ‘Alright, I think we got ourselves a little band, here.’” Matt encouraged the crowd to sing along to it and it got everyone pumped. This song holds a special place in any fan’s heart because not only was it the first single that dropped with Matt as a vocalist, but the meaning behind the song focuses on substance abuse, anxiety, and depression which some of us could relate to.

All in all, the guys did a damn good job rocking out in Dallas, Texas. We wish them the best of luck on the rest of their tour and their journey to creating “badass shit”, as Matt said. We also would like to extend our gratitude to the band and their team for having LiveMusicToday attend the show. Be sure to check out the guys as they could be coming to a city near you. Tickets are $20 before taxes and fees, and VIP upgrades are available at $85 before taxes and fees. Don’t miss it!
